The safety of Clay County’s children continues to be a top priority at the Clay County Sheriff's Office. As such, we want to remind the public about a program coordinated by the Clay County Department of Public Safety - the Clay County Car Seat Safety Program!

Crash tests prove that properly installed seats save lives! That is why the Clay County Car Seat Safety Program was established. We are urging the community (parents, grandparents, foster parents, day care workers) to take advantage of this new resource. Checkpoints are free and a minimal fee of $15 is collected (as required by Dept. of Transportation grant guidelines) if a replacement seat is provided.

The Clay County Car Seat Safety Program provides free child car seat installation advice and assistance in a checkpoint setting.

These inspections truly have "life or death implications" especially in light of the fact that, on local, state, and national levels, 98% of seats inspected by trained technicians were installed improperly by the child’s parent or guardian. Stated simply, proper installation of a safety seat is harder than it looks!

Checkpoint locations vary from month to month and you do not need an appointment to attend. Please bring your children with you to the fitting station as technicians will want to insure proper sizing of seat straps, etc.
