The Explorers is a program for teenagers that want to have a career in Law Enforcement when they get older. Our post has a Jr.Cadet Program this program is for teenagers through the ages 12-14. To be an Explorer you have to be between the ages of 14-21. Our post goes on many trips to compete in different types of competition’s. We are very active in the F.S.E.A , Florida Sheriff's Explorer Association. The FSEA was created to allow Sheriff's Explorer Post to meet quarterly to train, network, and meet other explorers from different types of agencies and different ways of life. The F.S.E.A. comes together in March, June, September, and December for State Delegates Meetings. The June conference is a week long state conference where the explorers elect new board members to serve for the next year. Our post also travel's once a year to Gatlinburg TN, to compete in our Winterfest competition. This competition is for all types of Explorers around the country. Our post is known as National Champions. To be able to go on these types of trips you have to work details. Details are different events that we have on weekends such as working the PAL football games, finger printing children, parking cars, working security, etc. This earns Explorers community service hours that can be used for  school and later for scholarships. Some Explorers have earned over 500 community service hours from working details. We also park cars at the Clay County Fair and Scottish Games every year. We park on average 300,000 cars a year between different details. If you are interested in joining Clay County Sheriff's Explorer Post 987 please join us every Thursday at the Governors Creek Boat Ramp in Green Cove Springs from 6:00pm-8:00pm. If you have any Questions ask your school Resource Officer. Or you can contact our senior advisor Deputy John Jordan at ~ 838-8547
