The
Clay County Sheriff's Office Citizens' Academy is a program
through which
hundreds of Clay County residents, young and old, are learning helpful information about how law enforcement operates in Clay County. The
Citizens' Academy concept has been tested and refined by a
variety of law enforcement agencies across the country for
many years. We modeled our course after those programs that
yielded the greatest public interest and have hundreds of
graduates who already enjoyed the program and are spreading the word to their friends and neighbors.
The
general curriculum of the Citizens' Academy includes the following:
-
General overview from Sheriff Beseler on the history of
law enforcement
-
Overview of the personnel and budget of our agency
-
Bureau Commanders will present information on each of their
units and the office's role in serving the community. For
example, Patrol, SWAT, Communications, Robbery/Homicide
and many more
-
Discussions of landmark cases and investigations in CCSO
history
- Tour
of the Clay County Jail
The academy spans a ten week period and is held on Tuesday
evenings from 6:30-9:30pm. The academy is open to all adult
Clay County residents. Criminal background checks are conducted
on all participants. Please feel free to contact Citizens'
Academy Coordinator Bill Doolittle at 213-6062. Interested? Fill out the
application below. We look forward to having YOU in the next
Citizens' Academy!
