Accidental Death of Middleburg Man

Shortly after 6pm last night the Clay County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a man trapped under a vehicle at 5724 Canvasback Road in Middleburg.

Responding deputies and paramedics found the victim, 48-year-old Thomas J. Black, at the scene deceased. The victim was apparently working underneath his vehicle that was propped up on a concrete block and wooden boards. It appears that the boards gave way and the vehicle fell on top of the victim crushing him to death. The victim was underneath the vehicle for an unknown period of time before being found by his 4 year old daughter who notified a neighbor.

Clay County Fire Rescue officials pronounced the victim deceased on scene. The victim’s daughter was released to the victim’s sister. CCSO Homicide detectives were notified and responded to the scene.

The incident report related to this death investigation is not yet complete, but will be sent as a separate release once it becomes available.
