PUBLIC INFORMATION ANNOUNCEMENT

33-year-old Jacksonville resident Torey Jenkins was charged this weekend with the murder and aggravated child abuse of a one year old child.

Detectives from the CCSO Robbery-Homicide Unit believe Jenkins is responsible for the death of 16-month-old Destiny Patterson. The battery of this victim occurred on 9-17-09 and she died at Wolfson's Children's Hospital the following day as the result of her injuries.

Jenkins, a friend of the victim's mother who was babysitting the child at the time of the incident, fled the area afterwards but was located and held on unrelated charges (Driving with a suspended license) in Tennessee last week. Warrants were obtained for his arrest on these murder and battery charges and he was transported back to Clay County over the weekend. He is now in the Clay County Jail held without bond.
