Double Homicide Investigation Continues in Clay County

Detectives from the Clay County Sheriff's Office Robbery-Homicide Unit continue their investigation today into the deaths of two men overnight on Fleming Island. No arrests have been made yet but the victims' next of kin have been notified and our agency is now able to release information about the victims.

Victim #1 David Wiley Smith, DOB 2-12-85 of Middleburg (died at the scene)
Victim #2 Kevin Lee Martin, DOB 11-12-84 of Orange Park (transported from scene by Fire Recue to OPMC; died at hospital)

Detectives believe the 2:00am incident stemmed from a bar fight at Club Myth which is located at 1809 East West Parkway on Fleming Island. Those involved in the disturbance inside the club were kicked out and the fight continued in the parking lot. This involved several people but an exact number is not yet known. We are not at liberty at this time to release information about the exact manner in which the victims were killed. CCSO detectives are at the Jacksonville Medical Examiner's Office today witnessing the autopsies and further cause-of-death infromation may be released later this week if such a release doesn't hamper the investigation.
