PUBLIC INFORMATION ANNOUNCEMENT

An additional arrest and booking on Jarred Harrell has been made. These charges involve production of child pornography (12 counts that represent 12 separate images of a child) and molestation of that child. These charges are the result of the ongoing investigation into Jarred Harrell and his suspected illegal activities. These new charges are even more serious than the Possession of Child Pornography charges he already faces. He is now held on no bond and will have another “first appearance” in the morning at the Clay County Courthouse via closed circuit television sometime after 7:45am.

FSS Ch. 119.071(2)(h)1 prohibits the release of any information that in any way identifies the victim of a sex crime, so every precaution available under this law has been taken to protect the victim’s identity (name, exact age, address, relationship to suspect, etc) in this additional case.

However, we do want to make clear to the media and to our community that these new charges do not involve Somer Thompson.
