Public Information Announcment
On Thursday, April 15, the Clay County Sheriff's Office will conduct the 2010 Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. This annual event partners local law enforcement (sworn and civilian) with Special Olympians from Clay County school programs.
The run begins at 9:45 a.m. at Orange Park High School on Kingsley Avenue and ends at Publix, 865 Hibernia Road and Highway 17, with runners assigned to small portions or legs of the route based on ability. CCSO’s volunteer runners will be matched with a Special Olympian capable of the same distance and placed strategically along the route to receive the torch from the runner before. The CCSO Traffic Unit provides an escort along the route for the safety of everyone involved.
Thank you in advance for your interest in covering this worthwhile event. Clay County's Special Olympians truly appreciate it and everyone has a great time every year....you will, too! There is an opportunity at the end of the route at the Publix for a massive group photo….all runners plus the Sheriff and Traffic Unit members.
