UPDATED ON OCTOBER 15TH: SUSPECT LOCATED IN DUVAL COUNTY; DECEASED
Multi-Agency Group Continues Search for Homicide Suspect (10/12/2010)
Homicide suspect Christopher Scott Kilgore remains at large and no actual sightings of this suspect have been confirmed by law enforcement authorities. Local search efforts now turn to areas of the Jennings State Forest not yet searched by officials. The CCSO has joined forces again today with the State Division of Forestry, the United States Marshals and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to search heavily wooded areas inside the forest's boundaries. Through the continued gathering of information about the suspect's past behavior, detectives know there is a possibility that the suspect, Kilgore, could attempt to hide from law enforcement in wooded areas and attempt to evade arrest in this manner. It also remains a possibility that he was able to flee the area entirely in his parents' SUV.
The CCSO is now leading a team on a search of wooded areas in Jennings State Forest, entering at the Long Horn Road entry point in Middleburg. For more information about Jennings State Forest please go to http://www.fl-dof.com/state_forests/jennings.html. The obvious challenge involved with a search like this is the sheer size of the search area, which is vast. In addition to personnel searching on foot, K-9 tracking teams are assisting in the area.
As a precautionary measure, CCSO and Division of Forestry officials are asking members of the public to temporarily avoid entry onto the Jennings State Forest grounds and discourage use of the forest's trails and facilities while the search is active.
Also, please find attached to this release, per media requests, documents pertaining to Kilgore's past arrests in Clay County.
The investigation into the homicides of Raymond Kilgore and James Coody and the shootings of Judy and Daulphus Kilgore remains active and ongoing. We will not be able to reveal any further detail today about the suspect's motives, the exact manner in which the victims were harmed, or the exact weapons used. The Kilgore parents remain hospitalized at Shands Jacksonville in stable condition and are expected to recover from the attack.
While a time-specific media briefing is not planned today, media outlets will be notified immediately if suspect Kilgore is located. Our agency encourages residents to remain diligent and to continue looking for the suspect and/or the vehicle (2005 Chevy Trailblazer, blue).
