2011 Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run Planned for Clay County
On April 18, 2011 we will hold our annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The run will begin at 10am and go from the Publix located at 410 Blanding in Orange Park to the Publix located at 865 Hibernia Road (Fleming Island). The route covers approximately 15 miles of roadside and bike trail and typically wraps up by 11:30am. The runners are escorted by the CCSO Traffic Unit.
This run brings awareness to the Special Olympics program in Clay County and the special relationship the program has with local law enforcement. CCSO members of all ranks and ability levels run/walk side-by-side with some of our county’s most heroic young people – Special Olympic athletes! Participants will be assigned to segments of the route, handing off the Special Olympics torch as they go. Some truly ambitious runners will complete all 15 miles….escorting the Special Olympians the entire way.
For the CCSO, the coordinators are Sgt. Mark Ottervanger (591-6965) and Lt. Kenney Wagner. We encourage residents and business people to come outside and cheer on the Special Olympians and their law enforcement running partners as they pass through your area of the route.
Thank you.
