For Immediate Release
Teen Arrested for Shooting at vehicles; Adult Accomplice also Arrested
A teenager was arrested and charged with Shooting Into a Vehicle (a felony; FSS 790.19) after detectives from the CCSO General Investigations Unit identified him as the suspect.
Please find attached the booking sheet and mug shot for 15-year-old Douglas Pineda of Green Cove Springs and for Steven Simons, his 22-year-old accomplice. Detectives believe that, for two weeks in May, Pineda shot pellets from a BB gun at cars and trucks as they traveled along Russell Road in Green Cove Springs. Pineda hid in the nearby woods and underbrush accompanied by co-defendant Simons.
Five cases of damage (victims/vehicles) were reported to law enforcement but detectives believe, based on the investigation, 10-15 vehicles total were shot at by Pineda during this time frame. Fortunately, no drivers or passengers were injured. The five cases represent approximately $2,000 in damage (mainly broken car windows that had to be replaced).
Media members may contact Det. Harris at 904-591-0253 with any questions about these arrests. Defendant statements have been redacted per Ch 119.
