Clay County Conducts Police Memorial Week Ceremony & Memorial Dedication
On Tuesday, May 7th at 10am the Clay County Sheriff’s Office will conduct its annual observation of Police Memorial Week and honor those law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty. The location of the ceremony this year will be the newly-renovated front lot of the CCSO David A. White Memorial Headquarters (Green Cove Springs office location). In addition to the memorial ceremony during which the eight fallen officers and their families will be honored, the ceremony will also serve as the dedication of the newly constructed Clay County Law Enforcement Memorial. The front entrance of our facility has been transformed and now includes a granite memorial wall, two granite benches, a new flag pole and entrance grounds that are paved with engraved memorial pavers.
Parking will be available for members of the media and guests across the street (east side of Hwy 17) and also in the overflow lot off Palmetto Ave. The CCSO front lobby will be closed to the public during the ceremony (9:30am-11am).
CCSO Detective David White (his name) will be added to both the state and national law enforcement memorials this month. Many members of the White Family and a large contingent of CCSO coworkers will attend and take part in the ceremonies at both locations. The dates for the state memorial are Sunday, May 5th (evening vigil) and Monday, May 6th (morning ceremony). National memorial events begin Monday, May 13th and go through Thursday, May 16th.
We would like to thank the Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) NE Florida Chapter, private donors, and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #104 for providing the funds needed for the White Family and David White’s coworkers to attend without use of taxpayer monies. Clay County will be well-represented at all the events held to honor Detective White this month and our members are grateful for the opportunity to be there.
