On July 14th – 16th, 2020, a team of assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) will examine all aspects of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services. The agency has to comply with approximately 239 standards in order to maintain its excelsior accredited status. Many of the standards are critical to life, health, and safety issues.
As part of the assessment, agency members and the public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. A copy of the standards is available at www.flaccreditation.org. The virtual assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar agencies who will review written materials, conduct virtual interviews and attend virtual tours where compliance can be witnessed.
Once the commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report to the full commission, which will then decide if the Clay County Sheriff’s Office is to maintain excelsior accredited status. The agency’s accreditation is for three years. Verification by the team that the Clay County Sheriff’s Office meets the commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to maintain our excelsior accreditation status.
