Deputy Sheriffs: Starting Salary $38,000
Description Of Duties
The Deputy Sheriff’s work involves protecting the lives and property of the general public by patrolling, investigating suspicious persons and circumstances, responding to and investigating criminal complaints, responding to disturbance calls with physical violence in progress, responding to calls involving accidents, injuries, and disasters, arresting persons in the commission of crimes, traffic pursuits and stops, accepting field custody of prisoners and transporting them, bearing firearms and being proficient in their use, attending county and circuit court for cases made.
Completion of approved law enforcement training and certification in compliance with the requirements of the state of Florida. Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license, high school diploma or GED, citizen of the United States, at least twenty-one (21) years of age, no felony convictions, no misdemeanor convictions involving perjury or false statements, be of good moral character, must pass a drug and physical examination and extensive background check.
Physical Effort Required
Deputy Sheriffs may be required to use bodily force to gain control of prisoner(s), be able to run, protect him/her by employing defensive tactics, and administer first aid. Performance of these tasks can involve maximum physical exertion with little or no prior notice and possibly for extended periods of time. Must be able to complete the Sheriff’s Physical Abilities Test within the acceptable time. The PAT is designed to simulate actual physical tasks that any Deputy Sheriff might be called upon to perform during their course of duty.
